Creating ‘DarkVelvet’ - Welcome

I am very happy to welcome you to my new project ‘D a r k V e l v e t’

This project has several layers and although it might seem that it is about recording a CD, my main goal is to bring the process of creating new music and the language of contemporary music closer to the audience in a form of video journaling on this Playlist on my YouTube channel.

In order for this to happen, I need you to subscribe below to my YouTube channel and leave a like if you do. Spreading the news is of course very welcome. You can do this by finding my Page on FB Julija Hartig Violin and Words and follow me there to get all the updates and new videos as they appear. You can also find my website julijahartig.com and follow the story unravel there as well by subscribing to my newsletter.

In my latest story of my Personal Blog ‘Life in Progress’ called also ‘DarkVelvet’ I have described the feeling of being a very small child and being present in an environment where my father was composing. For me, that dampened sound of the piano and that muffled quiet search of sound before it becomes music is the feeling of Dark Velvet.

The puzzle of my new CD is falling together beautifully and I am very happy to unravel it little by little to you in these videos. I will let you see the process of relearning the old pieces, learning to sing a separate part on top of my playing, learning the new pieces and will also take you along the journey of the three new pieces being written right now especially for this CD.

But let me tell you a little more about the repertoire on the CD. All the pieces that will be recorded are written for me, inspired by me or write together with me. I wish by this project and CD to give these pieces life and send them into the world to be heard and recognised and maybe become an addition to the contemporary violin repertoire.

Throughout my whole life, connection and friendship with composers have always come easy. After growing up with one, I have shared a house with a couple of them, had a relationship with one of them, and had many very close friends that were or still are composers. This resulted naturally in a life full of inspiring talks, collaborations and of course pieces dedicated to me. Being sometimes a part of a bubble of a piece leads to a crash course of the language.

I would like to take you along the journey of the language of new music. If you find yourself that something doesn’t speak to you, try to imagine it is a language you don’t speak and try to learn one word… it already becomes more familiar.

Below this video, you will find a couple of links that will lead you to the main topics I spoke about here. The link to my site, personal blog LiP and the link to the music that you are hearing in the background.

If I managed to tickle your curiosity with this welcome video, please give it a like and press the subscribe button below to get heads-up on new videos coming!

I hope you will enjoy this approximately one year journey with me! Thank you for watching and I hope till the next time! Stay well, inspired and healthy!
