The Duo Hartig-Broekhans, featuring violinist Julija Hartig and pianist Reineke Broekhans, embodies a rare musical partnership spanning more than 25 years. Formed at the Rotterdam Conservatorium, their collaboration was founded on a recognised compatibility and a shared vision for musical expression.

They are often described as “soulmates,” having become profoundly musically intertwined over decades of performing together.

Their playing is known for its intense emotional power; as critics note, “The listeners’ sensibility will be touched to the limit.” Their deep understanding of music allows them to bring remarkable clarity to their sound, where “everything that belongs not only to sound but also to silence is audible.”

Through an exceptional set of melodies, colours, harmonies, conversations, and images, listeners will “really be able to discover something new every time.”

The duo’s long-standing connection and artistic merit were officially acknowledged in 2004 when they won a prize at the prestigious Concorso Internazionale di Musica da Camera ‘Gaetano Zinetti’ in Verona.

In July 2022, the duo played a significant role on the critically acclaimed album, ‘Dark Velvet’, on the Challenge Records label. Following the success of this album, the duo has performed in recitals across Italy, the Netherlands, Serbia, and Finland, continuing their journey of painting music together for audiences internationally.
