Be-Longing No.2

The Dark Side of Chocolate

Retelling the story of cacao

Julija Hartig presents: Be-Longing! #2
A series of concerts and events in Splendor, hosted by Julija Hartig, with the powerful reflection on migration and identity - ‘Where are we going and where do we belong?’

Chocolate is not only sweet and indulgent; it also has a dark side that needs to be brought into the light. Like many other plants, crops and people, cacao is a migrant that has both inspired and enslaved us with its magic.

Cacao has captivated humanity, inspiring dreams while fueling a cycle of addictive production and consumption that, at times, led to both physical and mental enslavement.

Since a decade ago, a new voice has emerged in the world of cacao—a fresh approach and awareness we aim to explore and present through this event. We are seeking a new song and a new narrative about cacao.

During this event, you will hear the story of cacao through music and art and experience the magic of the cacao ceremony. We will present for the first time the cacao art project
